Sift Requirements Tool

Sift RT

What is Sift RT?

Sift Requirements Tool, or Sift RT, is a specification keyword analysis tool. It automates the process of searching for certain known keywords and phrases that commonly indicate strong or weak requirements. It is inspired by and fashioned after NASA’s Automated Requirements Measurement (ARM) tool. However, it is not planned to mimic the maturity metrics that the ARM report provides.

Why?

Partly because NASA’s ARM tool has been pulled from the web while NASA’s software assurance site gets an overhaul. Partly because ARM could be modernized and updated. Partly because a server based tool would allow organizational access and standardization to a tool instead of running an local executable.

How?

Sift RT is written on top of the CodeIgniter application platform, and is capable of running on any modern server with PHP. It will is open source and free (GNU GPL3 license).

Server Requirements:

  • PHP version 5.1.6 or greater
  • CodeIgniter 2.0.2 or greater

When?

Version 0.1.1 has been released (8/16/2011). I will continue to develop it, as time allows.

Where?

For now, you can use it at http://sift.solutionthree.com/, or download it here.

Parent pages will be here on solutionthree.com, but may get repository from Google code as project gets bigger.

Who?

Myself (an amateur coder), and anybody else that is interested.
